Steve grew up in Lisco, Nebraska, and graduated from Oshkosh High School. He attended Nebraska Western College (now WNCC) on a basketball scholarship and graduated with an Associates Degree in Business. After college, Steve worked for Bankers Life of Nebraska, and maintains an independent Life and Health agency in Bridgeport and Oshkosh. He has been associated with the Plummer Insurance agency since 1986.
Steve is a member of the Bayard Booster Club, Rejoice Lutheran Church, Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce, and the Garden County Chamber of Commerce. He has been an ardent supporter of youth athletics, and has been involved in Rodeo for most of his life.
Steve and his wife Sherry have three children, Samantha (Stoltenberg), Shaylee, and Spencer.
